Review A

As a 5-door 7-seat SUV, the SAIC-GM-Wuling Hongguang S3 has dimensions of 4655×1735×1790mm and a 2800mm wheelbase. The 7-seat space meets basic needs but is not spacious. Its curb weight is 1420kg. Powered by a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine with 73kW max power and 140N·m max torque, it accelerates sluggishly with 0-100km/h in 11.89 seconds and a top speed of 150km/h. Braking performance is average, with 100-0km/h braking distance of 42.78 meters due to mediocre suspension support and 16-inch tires with poor grip. Fuel consumption is not low: official combined fuel consumption is 9L/100km, and my actual test after running-in showed 10.3L/100km over 170km at an average speed of 45km/h. Drawbacks include an unattractive exterior, slightly small space, insufficient power for drivers with higher demands, and poor sound insulation with obvious wind and tire noise at high speeds, though acceptable for city driving.

Review B

The SAIC-GM-Wuling Hongguang S3 is easy to handle with precise steering and stable cornering. It feels steady below 80km/h but slightly shaky and light above 100km/h due to insufficient weight. The 1.5L engine with 6-speed manual transmission has a well-positioned clutch and responsive throttle at low speeds, with strong power between 40-80km/h, though acceleration weakens above 100km/h. The suspension handles small bumps well but causes noticeable bouncing over speed bumps, affecting comfort. Noise insulation is good at 60km/h; engine, tire, and wind noise increase moderately at 90km/h and become more apparent at 120km/h, which is acceptable for its class. Fuel consumption is average: official combined is 6.9L/100km, with around 7.5L (urban), 7.1L (suburban), and 6.6L (highway) shown on the meter when the AC is off.

Review C

Quality: SAIC-GM-Wuling Hongguang S3 has a low complaint rate; main issues are gearbox problems like abnormal noise, jerking, and gear slipping. Acceleration: Linear, easy to start, with strong torque from 1400 rpm onwards. Braking: Nods obviously under full braking; 100-0km/h average braking distance is 39.23m. Fuel consumption: Tested 102.5km (50% urban, 50% ring road) with dashboard showing 6.9L/100km. Noise: Significantly improved over previous models, low driveshaft noise, excellent sound insulation, keeping most road noise out.
