GAC Trumpchi M8

I bought the GAC Trumpchi M8 in April and have driven 10,000 kilometers. As an MPV, its space is satisfying—adults can sit comfortably in the third row, and my kids even like sleeping there. However, the trunk is a letdown; with six people, I have to fold half of the third row, and it's not flat enough for large items like a refrigerator.

The M8 performs well in动力方面; it's responsive for city driving, with about 15L/100km in the city and 8.0-8.5L/100km on the highway. The transmission shifts smoothly without obvious顿挫, though engine noise is noticeable during hard acceleration with a full load and AC on.

The chassis with Michelin tires handles speed bumps well but feels bumpy on rough roads. Basic driver assists like blind-spot monitoring and lane departure warning are useful for a large vehicle, though I don't use adaptive cruise. The automatic emergency braking works as demonstrated.

Drawbacks include no Huawei HiCar support and only wired CarPlay, which is inconvenient. The infotainment system has limited 6GB monthly data, can't change SIM cards, lacks traffic light countdown, and the full-screen CarPlay blocks other functions. Also, the headlights are too dim, so I had to upgrade them.

I recently experienced the new GAC Trumpchi M8 Master Edition. The 3070mm wheelbase provides excellent space, with the second row seats easily adjustable to a nearly flat position when the third row is unoccupied. The configuration is luxurious, featuring second-row touchscreens, electric adjustment, massage functions, rear seat tables, independent overhead AC controls, and a multimedia TV. However, the piano烤漆 on the center armrest is prone to scratches, so a protective film is recommended. While起步 is smooth thanks to the hybrid system, the transition from electric to engine power at higher speeds feels slow, though this is likely for smoother performance. The hybrid model offers good fuel efficiency but comes with a higher price tag; it's ideal for long-term use, while the fuel version is more suitable for those on a budget or short-term use. The ride is comfortable with good sound insulation and a smooth chassis. Overall, the M8 Master Edition stands out in the MPV segment, as evidenced by its strong sales.

I've had my GAC Trumpchi M8 for almost a month. Overall, it's good value for the price, with satisfying space, power and interior. The space is more than enough for my family of five. The front and middle seats are comfortable, but the third row is a bit hard. The trunk can fit two small suitcases. The infotainment system is responsive with an 8155 chip. My main dissatisfaction is the high fuel consumption, over 11L/100km in the city and around 8L/100km on the highway, and it requires 95-octane fuel. I haven't experienced sunroof leakage yet. I only did basic modifications like floor covering, window tinting and privacy curtains, costing over 5,000 yuan. It's good for family road trips.
