As a Wuhan-promoted local brand, it avoids concerns about sudden discontinuation and difficult parts replacement. The 1.5T high-power马赫 engine delivers strong acceleration with noticeable pushback. Although fuel consumption was a common concern, the third generation has been optimized to reduce it. For a car costing around 100,000 yuan, the most important thing is to choose what you like. I prefer the AX7 over fuel-efficient but underpowered sedans like the Levin, Sylphy, and Corolla, as driving satisfaction matters most.

My three-year experience with the Dongfeng Aeolus AX7 2018 1.6T Luxury: Real fuel consumption is 10.4L/100km in urban areas (avg speed 35km/h) and 7-8L/100km at 100km/h highway, acceptable for its size. The 2018 model's turbo intervenes at 1400rpm (vs 1750rpm for 2021), delivering strong power—easily first off the line and capable of carrying 4 adults on Duku Highway with light off-roading. Cold start engine noise fades after 30 seconds; interior隔音 could be better but manageable. Spacious with good seat support, though rear seats don't slide (2021 does). Chassis is firm. The 2018 exterior is the most classic, exuding presence, while 2021 is too youthful and the巨浪版's red accents are tacky (all-black would be better). 2018 interior, though outdated now, has a likable color scheme; 2021's is more luxurious. At 128,000 RMB all-in, it lacks advanced electronics (no active brake, auto hold, etc.) but has practical features: 6 airbags, 360 camera, blind spot monitoring, electric mirrors with heating/folding, and Continental tires—sufficient for a 20-year driver prioritizing reliability. Its core strengths are the PSA 1.6T engine (8-time Ward's 10 Best, 2014 1.4-1.6L winner), Aisin 6AT, and CRV-derived chassis, unbeatable in its class. Minor issues: winter suspension squeaks (fixed by replacing bushings), steering wheel jitter (recall fixed), dashboard/ windshield plastic rattles (resolved with垫片/3M tape), and coolant leak (recall fixed)—all due to quality control, not faults. Sales depend more on marketing than quality for decent cars.

Speaking of the Dongfeng Aeolus AX7 PRO, though it's a new entrant (launched on last year's Teachers' Day), its sibling AX7 has a longer history, debuting in early 2014 with military-grade quality from sharing production with the Warrior military vehicle and joint venture core components like the old CR-V chassis. Now, as a mid-cycle refresh, the AX7 PRO shows improvements in design, smart features, and powertrain. Its exterior is sleeker with a muscular hexagonal grille, matrix headlights, and a through-type taillight, appealing more to young buyers. The interior features a red-black color scheme, 77% soft-touch surfaces, and拉丝面板 and chrome accents for better质感. Wheelbase remains 2715mm, longer than the Boyue PRO by 45mm. The WindLink5.0 system offers voice control, navigation, and OTA updates. Smart driving aids include ACC, AEB, lane keep, and adaptive cruise, which worked well in tests with sudden stops/cuts. Powered by a 1.6THP engine and Aisin 6AT, it delivers steady power, suitable for family use. The suspension, tuned for comfort, handles small bumps well but struggles with speed bumps. High-speed NVH and engine noise at high revs need improvement. Positioned above the base AX7, it targets those seeking more features in the 100,000-150,000 RMB segment.
