GAC Trumpchi E9 PHEV 2025 2.0TM Super Fast Charge Vehicle Profile

Three Highlights and Three Caveats

Three Highlights
Unique 2.0T PHEV Powertrain The only 2.0T plug-in hybrid MPV in its class, delivering 274kW combined power and 0-100km/h in 8.8 seconds. The 2.0T engine ensures strong power delivery even in depleted battery mode, outperforming all 1.5T rivals.
4C Ultra-Fast Charging, 30-80% in 8 Minutes The 25.6kWh battery pack supports 4C super-fast charging — 8 minutes to go from 30% to 80%. This is the fastest-charging PHEV MPV on the market. CLTC electric range is 136km, combined range is 983km.
Semi-Aniline Zero-Gravity Seats + 20-Speaker YAMAHA Audio Second-row features semi-aniline leather zero-gravity seats with 16-point massage. The 20-speaker 7.1.4 YAMAHA surround system, combined with 270° double-layer acoustic glass and 150 NVH treatment points, delivers exceptional cabin quietness.
Three Caveats
  • Fuel consumption in depleted mode is ~6.38L/100km — mid-to-high among PHEVs
  • Curb weight ~2,420kg limits agility
  • L2 ADAS only, no highway/city NOA functionality

Model Overview

The Trumpchi E9 is GAC's first plug-in hybrid MPV, launched at the 2023 Shanghai Auto Show. The 2025 Super Fast Charge Edition debuted at the 2024 Guangzhou Auto Show with the key upgrade being 4C ultra-fast charging battery technology. It competes directly with the Denza D9 DM, Wey Alpine (Gaoshan), and Toyota Sienna.
The E9 features a "Kunpeng Spreading Wings" front fascia design, measuring 5,212mm in length with a 3,070mm wheelbase, offering a 7-seat layout. The cockpit includes a triple-screen setup (12.3" instrument + 14.6" central + 12.3" passenger), powered by the Snapdragon 8155 chip with ADiGO smart connectivity.

Competitors Comparison

Overview
The large PHEV MPV segment is among the fastest-growing in China. Key comparison dimensions:
  • Powertrain: E9 is the only 2.0T PHEV in this group at 274kW combined. Sienna is a non-plug-in hybrid, missing NEV policy benefits. Denza D9 and Wey Alpine use 1.5T PHEV.
  • Charging speed: E9's 4C ultra-fast charging (8 min 30-80%) is unique. Denza D9 and Alpine need ~30 minutes.
  • Space: E9 at 5,212mm is similar to Denza D9 (5,250mm). Alpine (5,045mm) is shorter, Sienna (5,165mm) in the middle.
  • ADAS: Alpine leads with Coffee Pilot (254 TOPS) + LiDAR. Denza D9 uses DiPilot + 13 cameras. E9 and Sienna are L2 basic.

The E9 PHEV's key advantages are its exclusive 2.0T PHEV powertrain, 4C ultra-fast charging, and premium 2nd-row comfort. vs Alpine: E9 offers better range, faster charging, superior 2nd-row seats, but Alpine has stronger ADAS (LiDAR) and sportier performance (5.7s 0-100). vs Denza D9: E9 has the 2.0T engine advantage and much faster charging, though Denza D9 has slightly more range. vs Sienna: Sienna is Toyota-quality but non-plug-in, missing NEV incentives. Best suited for business/family buyers prioritizing charging speed, 2nd-row comfort, and reliable 2.0T PHEV power.

Expert Reviews

Strengths
  1. 2.0T PHEV delivers confident power in all conditions; highway overtaking in depleted mode far better than 1.5T rivals
  2. 4C super-fast charging is a genuine game-changer for PHEV MPVs — 8 minutes for 30-80%
  3. SDC electromagnetic suspension with 4,000 data samples/second adjusts damping in real-time, delivering premium ride quality
  4. Impressive NVH: 270° double-layer acoustic glass + 150 sound treatment points keeps cabin quiet at highway speeds
Areas for Improvement
  1. Depleted fuel consumption at 6.38L/100km is mid-to-high for PHEV MPVs
  2. Comfort-tuned chassis shows noticeable body roll during aggressive driving
  3. L2 ADAS is basic — no auto lane change, no navigation-guided driving, falling behind Alpine and higher-trim Denza D9
  4. Third-row space is tighter than expected for adults on longer trips
Real-world Testing
  • City EV range: Spring/Autumn 20-25°C, mixed city+expressway: ~120-130km, ~88-95% of CLTC (source: automotive media)
  • Depleted highway: 120km/h cruise, ~7.5-8.5L/100km (source: owner feedback)
  • Combined range: Full tank + full charge ~900-1,000km (source: professional media)

Real Owner Reviews

Positive
2nd Row Comfort
Zero-gravity seats with massage highly praised; family trip experience significantly elevated
"The second-row zero-gravity seats are incredibly comfortable. My wife keeps the massage on during long trips — says it's better than home massage chairs"
Charging Speed
4C fast charging unmatched among PHEVs; daily commuting on EV mode is effortless
"8 minutes to 80% is faster than my phone charges. Plug in while eating a quick meal and you're good to go"
Power Delivery
2.0T PHEV clearly outperforms 1.5T on highways; still strong when battery is depleted
"Test drove the Denza D9. Above 120km/h the E9 clearly has more punch. The 2.0T makes a real difference here"
Cabin Quietness
Double-layer glass works well; highway cabin noise well controlled
"Previously drove an Odyssey. After switching to the E9, the difference in quietness is night and day. No need to raise voices at 120km/h"
Negative
Infotainment Lag
ADiGO system functional but not as smooth or feature-rich as new EV brands
"The infotainment can't match the new EV brands. UI smoothness and app ecosystem need improvement"
Depleted Fuel Economy Higher Than Claimed
Real-world depleted highway consumption ~7-8L/100km vs claimed 6.38L
"Running on depleted battery on highways, I'm seeing about 7.8L/100km, higher than the advertised 6.38"
