SAIC Maxus G50

As the two-child and three-child policies are released, MPVs have become a preferred choice for many families. With a budget of around 150,000 yuan, the SAIC Maxus G50 PLUS is a viable option, and the 2021 model still offers considerable discounts in Beijing. It features a large front grille with chrome trim, giving a young and atmospheric look, while the rear is more conventional. The interior is equipped with 12.3-inch full LCD instrument panel and central control screen, along with the Spider Intelligent Connect system. The touch-controlled air-conditioning panel adds a high-end feel, and high-end models even have head-up display, wireless charging, and heated leather seats. With dimensions of 4825/1825/1778mm and a wheelbase of 2800mm, it adopts a 2+2+3 seating layout. The second-row independent seats and third-row with good leg support ensure comfortable rides. Folding the third row provides a large trunk space with a hidden storage box. However, it is powered by a 1.5T engine with 124kW (169hp) and 250N·m, mated to a 7-speed dry dual-clutch transmission, which feels underpowered. The fuel consumption is relatively high, and active safety features like 360-degree panoramic image should be available in mid-to-low trims. Potential buyers also expect manual transmission, diesel, and 9-seat versions.

The SAIC Maxus G50 Plus is essentially an upgraded version of the G50, mainly improving the infotainment and driving assistance systems while retaining the old powertrain. The dual-clutch gearbox has obvious drawbacks like jerking and顿挫 at low speeds, though it stabilizes at higher speeds. The new "Spider Intelligent Connect" voice control system is鸡肋; it misinterprets commands (e.g., "I'm hungry" as "I'm hot") and isn't as efficient as manual operation, so it should only be available in top trims. On the positive side, both front and rear seats offer good comfort with wide, soft front seats and spacious rear seating. However, if the second row is adjusted for optimal comfort, the third row becomes cramped, suitable only for passengers under 170cm tall.

I am very satisfied with the SAIC Maxus G50. It has great space, good power, and comfortable seating. The rear seats can be folded flat, and even the third row is comfortable. The only downside is the lack of a mobile app start function. The space is perfect, exactly what I like.
